Plant society to host event in Clark

Clark will serve as the headquarters for the Wyoming Native Plant Society’s

Clark will serve as the headquarters for the Wyoming Native Plant Society's annual event billed as a "weekend of flower viewing, botanizing and great company" on June 16-18.

"The weekend offers a variety of activities that are both fun and educational," said Kathy Lichtendahl, co-chair of the weekend. "Whether you’re simply wondering about the wildflowers in your backyard or hold a PhD in botany, the workshops, hikes and talks provide something for everyone.

"We are so lucky to have the event taking place in Park County this year."

The three-day event includes sessions on plant identification and a round robin for artists as well as guided field trips of varying durations and distances -- Swamp Lake, Beartooth Front, Bald Ridge and Heart Mountain.

Lichtendahl will talk about macro photography at the artist round robin and lead the hike up the Beartooth Front.

The Saturday dinner will feature a keynote address, "Plant Diversity and Evolution in the Paintbrushes (Castilleja)," by David Tank, PhD, director of the Rocky Mountain Herbarium.

The organization welcomes the public to participate and requires that people register, though they don't have to be members.

The event will be based at the Clark Pioneer Recreation Center, 321 Road 1AB, off WYO 120 north, about 30 miles north of Cody near the mouth of the Clarks Fork Canyon.

Additional details, and online registration, is available at www.wynps.org/events.

Register online or download the registration form to send by mail. Pay online or send a check to WYNPS, P.O. Box 2449, Laramie, WY 82073. Dinner registrations are due by June 10.

"If people simply want to come to the hikes and workshops/classes, they can register on-site Friday afternoon or Saturday morning before the events start," Lichtendahl said.
